Smallville Update

by Napua Ahina

Smallville Season 4 is being released on Tuesday, September 13th. The 6 DVD set includes all 22 episodes from the 4th season of the popular WB television series. Arguably containing some of the weakest plots so far for Smallville, season 4 still provides unsurpassed development of key characters like Lionel and Lex Luthor. It also sets-up important moments of Clark's eventual transition into Superman for season 5 (such as the creation of the Fortress of Solitude). Probably this season's greatest contribution is the introduction of new characters integral to the mythos of Superman such as Lois Lane, Krypto, and Mr. Mxyzptlk. Of course this season also highlights unforgettable senior year moments such as prom and graduation.

This item is retailing for $59.99. Your best buy would be with Tower Records for $39.99 and free USPS shipping. Or if you're a member with Barnes & Noble you can purchase the set for only $37.78 and free 3-day shipping. With a total running time of 952 minutes, you're looking at only a few dollars per hour of TV's current reinterpretation of the Superman mythology!

Special features will include unaired scenes, audio commentary on 3 episodes by Alfred Gough, Miles Millar and cast, and 2 documentaries. As a bonus, an extra DVD featuring an episode from Season 1 of the short-lived The Flash television series is also included. Click here for a sneak preview of the "Being Lois Lane" special feature (including interviews with Noel Neill, Margot Kidder, and Erica Durance)!

Smallville Season Five (Spoiler Warning!)

Be sure to also mark your calendars for the premiere of season 5 on Thursday, September 29th. Smallville will now air on Thursday nights 8/7c on The WB. This new season promises giants leaps for Clark becoming the Man of Steel! We can expect Chloe to join the Daily Planet as an intern, Jonathan Kent will run for mayor of Smallville, Lana will move to Metropolis, and Clark and Lex will become mortal enemies. Among the new characters to be introduced will be Brainiac and Aquaman.
