A Legacy of Hope

by Napua Ahina

October 10th marked one year since the death of Christopher Reeve. A relatively unknown actor, Reeve gained instant stardom when he donned the red cape and became Superman in 1978. True to media sensationalism, he helped the world believe that a man could fly.

After his tragic equestrian accident in 1995, Reeve became quadrapalegic. He also became a champion of courage... and a hero to the world. Seventeen years after Superman: The Movie, he helped us believe in miracles.

"I refuse to allow a disability to determine how I live my life," he said in an interview shortly after his accident. True to his word, he continued to live an active life of philanthrophy, political activism, and even acting. Christopher Reeve died on a Sunday last year. At only 52, his death was far too soon.

In his life and even in his death, Christopher Reeve has brought the miracle of hope to countless families and individuals. With the holidays coming soon we are reminded that this is the season of miracles. When thinking of Christmas presents to give this year, consider gifts which support the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation (CRPF). Your support will commemorate Reeve's incredible legacy and help improve the quality of life for disabled men, women and children. Donations can be made as a personal tribute or given on someone else's behalf. You can also purchase a variety of gifts which will also help fund the CRPF:

Make October your month to be a hero. Stand up for those who can't... and believe in miracles.
